#19 Fukuoka Tomato Ramen

Ramen life #19 Fukuoka Tomato Ramen

Instant noodles from Japan.

April 28.2016 BY Japanese instant ramen shop owner, Sakura.

Today’s instant ramen is from Fukuoka prefecture, Kyushu area.

Area: Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan
Flavor: Tomato flavor
Japanese Name: Fukuoka Tomato Ramen (福岡とまとラーメン)
English Name: Fukuoka Tomato Ramen
Product Page:http://jmyths.com/fukuoka-tomato-ramen.html

Our ramen for today is Fukuoka tomato ramen noodles.

This package has a tomato image on the whole packet. You can tell it is ramen, because it does say TOMATO RAMEN in English on the package. The decisive fact is of course tomatoes. It says ‘Soup with tomato momotaro 100% being used’ on the packet. Momotaro is one of the tomato kinds and they take about 70% of the share in Japan. So, you can tell how the soup is extracted with umami from tomatoes and tomatoes as it says they used Momotaro 100% in the soup. You can almost only see tomatoes, but this product also focuses on the noodles. The packet has a small writing saying ‘it uses Fukuoka barley.’. Well, Fukuoka prefecture developed a new kind of barley for ramen in order to polish the ramen up even more recently. This barley is called ‘Rah barley’ and produced only by the farmers in Fukuoka prefecture. When they make noodles with the barley, the noodle has a light color, firmness and doesn’t get too soft so it is the straight and skinny as its feature. It’s worth eating these developed noodles made with specific flour that was only made for ramen noodle use.

It contains noodles and liquid soup. Noodle is straight and dried.

A guide for cooking written at the back is for cooking the specialty noodles and the tomato Momotaro soup and eating them. Boil enough water in a pot, add the noodles and boil for approximately three minutes. While boiling the noodles, prepare 270ml of hot water and mix the soup sachet in a bowl, drain the water once the noodles are cooked drain the water and add the noodles in the bowl. There’s no information written regarding the extracted pork.

As a preferable way of eating, it’s even better adding some powdered cheese, bok choy and char siu. The leftover soup after the noodles have been eaten is still good to drink as it is, but it’s also recommended to add some rice in the soup and eat like a risotto. Please enjoy your original dish with these noodles by adding some cheese powder and so on. I love adding some cheese personally as the cheese always goes well with tomatoes! I didn’t have cheese today, so I added fresh tomato and green onion, which went well!!

This product has gotten attention on TV in Japan.

This instant noodle is produced by a Soba restaurant, therefore this instant ramen has a different taste from other products.

This instant ramen should be cooked noodles and soup separately. First of all, boil 1lof water and put the noodles. Boil the noodles for about 5 minutes.

While boilling the noodles, prepare the soup. Put liquid soup and 300cc of boiling water into a ramen bowl(for 1 serve. I cooked 2 servings,so i put 600cc of boiling water). I wanted to add some vegetables, so I cooked it in another pot.

When noodles are ready, remove it to Colander. Draining hot water from noodles.

Finally, serve in a bowl and add some toppings.

It tastes slightly sweet. This instant noodle remainds me of Indonesian noodles,Migoren, which i had a few weeks ago. This is not same taste as Migore. Because Migore was not sweet. I don't know why. I guess those are my favorite flavor.

Indomie Mi Goreng instant noodles

Ramen life Indonesian instant noodles

#15 Spinoff:Indonesian instant noodles

April22.2016 BY Japanese instant ramen shop owner, Sakura.

Today’s noodle is from Indonesia.

I got this Indonesian Indomie Mi Goreng instant noodles. This is more like a fried noodle than a ramen soup noodle. It looks so delicious. This has a HALAL mark on, so there’s no pork extract contained. It does say it is an exported product, so it must have a different taste to the one sold locally.

In the packet, there are noodles, seasonings, seasoning oil, soy sauce and chilli powder.

There’s an English instruction, but it’s faster to look at the picture and cook. I boiled the vegetables and shrimps together with the noodles as I wanted to eat them. The fried egg on the package looked attractive, so I fried an egg as well. I didn’t have oil, so I made the fried egg in the microwave. I sprinkled some chili powder, reddened pickled ginger, spring onions on top of the noodles and it was complete.

I didn't drain the water from the boiled vegetables enough, so the taste was a little lighter. It did say it should cook for three minutes, but I guess two and half minutes might be enough actually. They were so delicious that I couldn’t think that they were instant noodles. A slightly sweet sauce Asian in its style I reckon. I liked it how they weren’t too salty like a Japanese sauce and fried noodles. The fried egg might be a must include item. The taste was something specific to the country it was made in so I had to feel like I was eating out at a restaurant more than cooking at home but I would like to try having it in a few different ways because it's cheap and easy.

Ramen life #14Green Premium Sapporo ichiban Zero

#14 Green Premium Sapporo ichiban Zero Seafood flavor

April 21.2016 BY Japanese instant ramen shop owner, Sakura.

Today’s instant ramen is a healthy ramen!

Japanese Name: Green Premium Sapporo ichiban Zero Kaisen ramen
English Name: Green Premium Sapporo ichiban Zero Seafood flavor
Product Page:-

I saw this instant ramen in a newspaper yesterday. According to it, health-conscious instant noodles are increasing in Japan. I went to supermarket to buy it and had this instant ramen today. It says “Zero-oil soup”, “Non-fried noodle”, “Zero- colesterol”. Boiling time should be for three minutes. 291kcal/1serve without any toppings. That was put on the market in 2015.

It contains noodles and liquid soup. It looks totally same as a normal instant noodle.

I didn’t put anything this time. This is first time for me to try healthy ramen noodle, so I wanted to exploit the flavor of the ramen and soup themselves.

It tastes okay. I mean this instant ramen is good as a healthy food, but it needs something. I prefer usual instant ramen for sure.

#13 Instant ramen from Hakata.

Instant noodles from Hakata, Fukuoka, Kyushu.

#13Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen Washi Package

April 20.2016 BY Japanese instant ramen shop owner, Sakura.

Today’s instant ramen is from Hakata, Fukuoka, Kyushu.

Area: Hakata, Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan
Flavor: Tonkotsu
Japanese Name: Hakata ramen tonkotsu aji
English Name: Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen Washi Package
Product Page:http://jmyths.com/hakata-tonkotsu-ramen-washi-package.html

This instant noodle is a different flavor to the other Hakata noodles mentioned previously( Hakata Chicken Ramen Washi Packaging ),this is a Tonkotsu flavor version of the same product. As I mentioned before, it is again a Hakata noodle, so it should not disappoint you. The package has a Fukuoka festival printed on it, the festival is called ‘Hakata dontaku’ and it is held every May, there are more than two million people that visit from both inside and outside of Japan and it is a traditional festival that has been held for over 50 years.

There’s an instruction on how to make them at the back of the package. It recommends to cook the noodles and soup individually. Firstly, put the noodles in boiling water and boil them for about two minutes. Secondly, put the soup powder in a noodle bowl and pour in 270cc of hot water (This should be done while the noodles are boiled.). Lastly, just add the cooked noodles in the soup to complete.

The package has noodles and liquid soup inside, the liquid soup contains fat, so it’s best to warm it up before using.

See this, my toppings were an egg (cut in half), chashu (a few pieces of roasted pork), spring onions and reddened pickled ginger.

It really was the Hakata ramen noodle in taste and of course I was so satisfied! You’ve got to try them if you love Tonkotsu flavor noodles. Here is a video of this product being made.

#12 Onomichi Soy Sauce Ramen -Ramen life-

Ramen life #12 Onomichi Soy Sauce Ramen

Instant ramen from Onomichi, Hiroshima.

April 19. 2016 BY Japanese instant ramen shop owner, Sakura.

Today’s instant noodle is Onomich flavored ramen noodles.

Japanese Name: Onomichi Ramen Shoyu aji
English Name: Onomichi Soy Sauce Ramen
Product Page:http://jmyths.com/onomichi-soy-sauce-ramen.html

When it comes to Onomichi ramen noodles, it’s a soy sauce flavored noodle. Onomichi town is printed on the package, this is a port town in Hiroshima and is famous for lots of hills. It is a town full of an atmosphere of time that goes slowly. There’s also bridge approximately 60km in length that connects Onomichi city, Hiroshima and Imabari city, Ehime in Shikoku and is called Setouchi Shimanami Kaido and this is also popular for cyclists. For more details, please go to the official site. (Shimanami Kaido.)

The back of the package shows how to make it. It’s a type of instant noodle product where noodles and soup are prepared separately. To make the soup, you need 270cc of hot water. It is Onomichi ramen, but the manufacturer is located in Fukushima prefecture, so that is why the package says Onomichi “type flavor” and not “made of” I guess.

It comes with only noodles and liquid soup inside the package and that is very simple.

My recommendation for toppings mentioned were char siu, bamboo shoots, spring onions and an egg, however I didn’t have them at home today, so I’ve had them with no ingredients. These noodles are a soy sauce flavor with small dried sardines as the base. The soup has a slight fishy broth aroma. It has a light taste, so it may be great eating when you are a little bit hungry or at night. It should go well with nori seaweed to eat together. I’ll try this with some toppings next time.

There are some pictures of Onomichi which I took there. I went to a ramen restaurant close to a ferry terminal. I didn’t take the picture of ramen, but it’s good. Onomichi is nice place to visit. It takes about one hour from Hiroshima station by Shinkansen and bus.
